Inside survivor

Senior Survivor has become an annual event to raise money for pink out and hand to hand! It involves seniors sleeping overnight at the school. And they compete to gain immunity; without that immunity you may get eliminated. The goal in this is to raise the most money to stay in the competition. “Fundraiser with an emphasis on the word FUN.”-Maddie Breuker, Head of Senior Survivor

You might be asking why you would do this, who would think of this crazy idea. You may or may not know someone who has fought a battle with breast cancer. This has become an amazing fundraiser for pink out and hand to hand. Raising lots of money for people in our community who are battling and struggling.

Creation of survivor

Rylee Web and Amber English started it, later joining the team was Ashlynn Tower. They started senior survivor after hearing about it at West Ottawa. They then figured out how to put it into play at our own school. Creating a great way to bring the community together for a great cause while having fun.

“It was an incredible experience to be a part of and one of the best parts of high school!”- Rylee Web, JHS Senior Survior founder

This group who started it did an excellent job of getting people involved. Creating an event that many people in the future want to get involved in. Having it being so fun but also a fundraiser, it connects to the heart and emotions.

I wanted to get involved because I saw how much of an impact this event has on our community. It’s been awesome to see how much the event has expanded which has encouraged me to keep being involved in the event. – Maddie Breuker

2023 Senior Survivor

It also has brought so much appeal to seniors wanting to join. The group of seniors applying is always growing, having to turn people away. This group despite all their differences; they grow together over this week to do good for the community

“A group of dedicated seniors sleeping overnight at the high school without phones or car keys, raising money and bringing awareness for good causes” -Emma Higbee, Senior Survivor

Survivor can be very draining and tiring being in. Not only for the survivors having to wake up early for the challenges, and staying up late for them, plus homework. It also is very tiring for the group who put it all together. Figuring out times to do the challenges when everyone is in different extracurriculars

All this year’s survivors have very busy schedules, so working around them has been a bit difficult, but it has worked out in the long run and I think it will be an awesome event. -Breuker

If you are thinking about getting involved, you should. You can do that by competing, donating, or even helping your friend sell things. Do not regret not doing it.

This event is a wonderful way to bring our community together. As these seniors compete to survive and raise the most money.
