Changes in season and changes in you

“The only happiness I feel in life is the smell of spring,” online student, Jada Owen expresses. Seasons and weather can change a lot of things, like activities, the color of the leaves, and how you feel. A sudden storm or some stunning sunshine can determine your plans for the day, what you wear, and your mood.

The change in season can change your mood. For some, it may be more severe, and for others, it is less serious. Some people don’t enjoy winter because as Jada Owen says, “Wintertime is dark and gloomy. I tend to feel pessimistic and lonely in the winter.” The feeling of snow seeping into your shoes isn’t great either. Yet, some people feel the opposite. Sometimes summer isn’t everyone’s season of choice. Summer can cause loneliness for kids. This is because most students are familiar with seeing their friends every day. When asked what the worst thing about summer was, Jada adds, “Summer creates stress and sweat.” Many people have this same struggle. Whether it is a parent worrying about their children, or a student distressed about the new year. For any time, the change in weather can surprise you.

Weather also changes where you might choose to spend your time. Molly Brew, a ninth-grader at Jenison, remarks, “Right now, I would rather stay inside because it is very cold.” But, when the weather is nice some people like to spend as much time as possible outside. “Well, I’d rather be outside because it’s better, you know, more refreshing to be outside,” Mrs. Eddington, a French teacher, statesHowever, sometimes bad weather forces you inside.

Whatever the Weather

For Jenison students, the weather can be terrible or beautiful, depending on the day. Michigan weather tends to be all over the place. If you happen to be stuck inside due to bad weather here are some options to keep you busy. Mrs. Eddington says she likes to play word games and watch Netflix. She also likes to play with her pets at home. Putting together a puzzle, reading a book, or watching a new show are all great pastimes. On a cold winter’s day, you could go sledding or do other winter activities. Making hot tea or cocoa and watching a movie by the fire are both exceptional winter activities. There are fun things to do in all seasons.

If the weather is nice you can do more outdoor activities. If you can go out you can go for a walk or a bike ride. Jada says that she sometimes likes to sit on her porch and relax. Molly enjoys going swimming and going to cheer practice. Some other ideas are going to a park, planting a garden, stargazing, and going camping. Also, you can always stay inside if the outdoors aren’t for you.

Whether it is your mood, your clothes, or your activities, one thing that you can be sure of is that weather plays a role. Mother Nature, cruel or kind, has her hand in our plans.
