A review on Ready or Not

Ready or not is a horror comedy motion picture released in 2019. The movie performed well at the box office and later led to the studio making both of the most recent Scream films. In this review, we will discuss if you should spend your valuable time and watch it.

The production of Ready or Not

‘Ready or Not’ is a feature released in 2019 made by film production company Radio Silence. More recently they made the 2 most recent SCREAM movies. The cast in ‘Ready or Not’ incorporates many well-known people. People like Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell. The cast all does an outstanding job doing their roles. All the crew seemed to have an enjoyable time. Mark O’Brien said “Everyone was lovely”

The overview of the movie

‘Ready or Not’ is a horror movie with a strong sense of darker humor. The plot follows Grace on her wedding day about to marry Alex le Domas who is a part of the very rich Le Domas family. After the wedding, she must play a game with the Le Domas family. Everyone before her got simple and easy games but she pulls Hide and Seek. We must watch Grace hide and discover the truth behind the wealth and fame of the LeDomas. The plot of the story is pretty good and straightforward. It doesn’t leave plot holes by the end of the movie and does a good job of keeping the movie moving forward and leading to a satisfying ending. The main writer for the movie was Guy Busick. Busick would later have a hand in both of the most recent Scream films as mentioned earlier.

The strengths/strong suits

The narrative is horror-themed first but it also tries to make you snicker. The story has many jokes but they never feel forced and they never fall flat. It has almost a darker slapstick theme of comedy at times. If you love gore in horror movies there is a little bit but it never goes super high. The movie is definitely a horror film. There are enough breaks in the horror that many non-horror fans could make it through the movie. The one-liners in the movie for me always hit even after 2 or 3 rewatches, the gore and kills are good but never over the top. They always manage to feel right. At times many people were laughing at the jokes, but also feeling terror-stricken at the same time.

The weak points/downsides

A bit of the movie relies on the shock factor and its humor. After a few rewatches you could find yourself bored with everything about the movie. Many of the caricatures are very extreme in their personality. Which some might enjoy but others might find a bit annoying. Tons of people enjoyed all the humor even after many rewatches but this will not hold true with everyone. The humor can also be very dark if not close to disturbing for some people. For those who haven’t seen horror before it could be especially overwhelming.

Recommendation

The film does a very good job of keeping the audience entertained while keeping the suspense. It is ridiculous and it is unnerving. It is an amazing film that comes very recommended.
