Fighting till the end
The boy’s basketball team is confident in their season and sees a bright future for the rest of the season ahead. They had a tough loss against Hudsonville on Tuesday in double overtime. As well as a loss to #9 in the state Grand Haven on Friday. But that only made them stronger and ready to take on their next games.
Players believe they are able to turn this season around and work together to get some wins. The team is 4-9 right now but is already a big improvement from last year. Camden Duval says he feels good about this season. Duval says “A lot of young guys are stepping up.” This is a positive thing for the team this year with many of the players being seniors. Duval is one of those seniors this year and likes playing on this team and the teammates that he is surrounded by.
Games
Moving forward they have a lot of big conference games coming up in a very tough OK red conference. With even a team that this year is in the top 10 in the state. One of those games includes a rematch against our school’s rival Hudsonville. Trevor Martens the small/power forward says, “We are proving that we can hang in the OK Red.” As well as the big Pink Out game on February 11 against West Ottawa. This is a big game every year because of the meaning behind the night. The team always puts it all out on the court. The guys wait for this game all year. Martens says in response to how he feels about the pink out game “is a great cause and it is a great experience and seeing the whole community together is the best.”
Improvement
The team hasn’t given up on this season and that’s for sure. They started the year off right with a 4-2 record. They’ve fallen into a kind of rough patch but players believe they will get back on track. Jaxen Bagley believes the team has a lot of potential. Bagley says, “We have good chemistry, and a lot of us have been playing with each other for a while.” The team has talent and the passion to win games they need to execute it into games.
The team does have some things they would like to improve on through the end of the season. Camden Duval says the team needs to play “better team basketball.” Jaxen Bagley ads by saying the team could succeed if they had “improvements offensively and trusted teammates in-game more.” Some of the players said the team needs to be more selfless and work on the improvements with each other. The Jenison boys basketball team is a good one this year. With many seniors leading the way the ending of the season is bright. With some of the young players stepping up to the challenge, this team is ready to take on the conference. The team is working on improvements and once they get those down I can see them making this a winning season.
