At 11:30 on November 4, the kids of Jenison Marching Band were at the high school, practicing their show. The band was about to head to Detroit, Michigan for the MCBA State Championships.

Around 1:00, they packed everything up and waited for the buses. At 7:00, the band was in Ford Field.

They went inside and watched bands until it was time to warm up for the performance. It was a rainy day, so the guard did not warm up outside before they went into Ford Field to practice.

In warm ups, the band plays their show music and the guard practices parts of the show.

After the warm ups, both guard and band head to the field to wait to perform. The front ensemble is already waiting by the time they get to the field.

Finally, it was time to perform. The band members with fences went to set them up, while guard set up their flags.

About 15 minutes later, the band finished their show and went to take pictures.

After taking pictures, the band went to a watch the awards.

Jenison was awarded best visual best general effect and best music. All of the band felt like they were going to get first because it was a rare occurrence that you got all the captions and didn’t when.

The announcer said, “In second place… The Reeths-Puffer High school Marching band!” and everybody had to hold in their cheers.

Jenison got first for the first time since 2013.

Soon after the awards were finished, the band headed back to where the buses were parked, everybody changed up with their uniforms, and they headed back home to Jenison where they arrived at around 2:30 in the morning.

The band took their instruments and uniforms inside and the guard put their flag bags back in the guard room.

After a long day of hard work, everybody headed home with a full heart and state championship gold medal around their neck.
