The Jenison Varsity dance team took on their first competition of the season. It was held at Coopersville High School on Saturday, December 2nd. They have been preparing for this competition season since October.

The girls arrived at Jenison High School to board the bus at 6:15 in the morning. Their first dance was around 10:30. The bleachers filled with families and friends of the team.

There were eight other varsity teams total. Kenowa Hills, Hudsonville, Byron Center, Durand, Coopersville, Rockford, Fowlerville, and West Ottawa all brought dances to compete.

They competed with three dances: jazz, pom, and hip-hop.  Their jazz dance “Tears will dry” took 4th place. Their pom dance (mash-up) took 4th place as well. Finally, the hip-hop dance (mash-up) took 3rd place. Trophies were received during the award ceremony for each dance.

“We worked really hard and had four hour practices almost every day the week before the competition. It payed off because we started a month later than the other teams competing,” says team captain, Gabby Hendel (10th).

The Jenison Varsity dance team continues to push themselves to be ready for the next competition at Wayland High School. Make sure to come and show your support.
