Why is family so important?

“These bonds are important because family helps us get through the most disastrous times and the best times. Family is important because they can offer support and security coupled with unconditional love; they will always look to see and bring out the best in you even if you cannot see it for yourself. Family is important because they will, for the most part, be the only ones who can really understand you and bring you back to that place of peace.” According to the article The Importance of Family, from hanleyfoundation.org. Family is a huge component in many people’s lives. Your family, most of the time, are the ones who will always be there for you. Through thick and thin, many people rely on that. Your family can teach you about traditions, and your heritage. Everything you do is dependent on what they teach you.

Who are you closest to in your family?

I am currently closest to my aunt Emily and my mom. I am very close with both of them because I tell them everything. I talk to them about my problems, and they are there to listen. They give me advice on what I should do in certain situations and make sure I do the thing that’s best for me. Growing up with all boys in the family, it was hard to talk to people. Especially since boys are always in a tough-love mindset. As I grew up, I started to gain a close relationship with my mom and aunt. They were the only ones I was close to. My aunt and I are close in age so we were both, for the most part, going through the same things. Having a close relationship with someone in your family is so great. It gives you the type of comfort and support you need.

What are some of your family traditions?

I’m Mexican, so my family traditions could be different compared to yours. A tradition that we do on everyone’s birthday (even on my grandma’s) is that we push our faces into the birthday cake. Another tradition that we have for birthdays is that we have a pinata. It is a paper mache sphere that contains candy. Everyone, including the grown-ups, have a chance to hit it if they wanted to. Another tradition we have is a quinceanera. A quinceanera is a big party for when the girls of the family turn 15. Turning 15 represents the little girl transitioning from childhood into adulthood. I am the second girl who has gone through this process in my family.

Where do you spend the most time with your family?

I spend the most time with my family at my grandma’s house. During the summer, we spend endless hours there. Partying and enjoying each other’s company. We eat food, go swimming since she has a pool, and spend hours playing volleyball with each other. It doesn’t matter what the occasion is, we have our parties or family gatherings at her house.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The article from work.chron.com explains ways that parents can influence your future careers. “Many children grow up idealizing the professions of their parents. If you always looked up to your mother and admired her teaching skills, that may influence you to pursue a career in education.” If you look up to one of your parents, even both, that might impact you into doing what they do. So, if your parents talk to you about how amazing their job is, you are going to be more interested in that specific job. From the day you were born, and as you continue to grow up you will always be closest to your parents. Because of this, kids tend to want to be like their parents. Another way they can impact your career choice is through their past mistakes. If your parents are struggling with money, they will pursue you into not going down the path they went down.

Most parents will pass on their values and beliefs onto their kids and most kids will grow up having those same beliefs as their parents.

How does family shape who you are?

According to Anishalehal, an author for familyrelationshipblog.wordpress.com, our family influences the way we do things in two ways. “There are two ways that families influence values and expectations of their children: directly and indirectly.” Parents are teaching their kids moral values. This includes what they believe is right and wrong. Also what they believe in. How they interact with people, and rules and expectations. Parents teach their kids how they can socialize with others. They also watch them make choices based on their personal experiences and interests.

The rundown

Family can be a key factor in everyone’s lives. Family can influence you in many ways. These ways can include your interests and your interactions with others. It can also affect future jobs, and norms in your future household.
